Why Aren’t Your Prayers Being Answered? Here Are a Couple Things to Consider.
Sometimes, you may have a valid request but the wrong motive—seeking “great things for yourself” reflects self-interest rather than sincerity. James, known as Camel Knees, noted that prayers go unanswered when asked for selfish reasons. Praying for your own will instead of seeking God’s is a misguided motive.
Secondly, it is possible that one may not be able to receive what has been requested. As noted by Jesus when speaking to His disciples: “I have many things to tell you, but you cannot receive them.” Individuals are only capable of receiving what they are adequately prepared for. Factors that might hinder a person from receiving what is rightfully intended include unconfessed or unrepentant sin, spiritual immaturity, a superficial relationship with God, or insufficient faith.
If asking God doesn’t seem sufficient, it can help to consider your reasons for praying and whether you’re ready to receive His response; this might reveal why prayers go unanswered. However, understanding alone isn’t enough—if your motives don’t align with what God desires, you need to work on changing them. Likewise, if you aren’t spiritually prepared to accept an answer, it’s important to continue growing in your relationship with Him.
